business-insider-logo_full_600Business Insider editor in chief Alyson Shontell sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

Good morning!

Our mission at Business Insider is to get better for readers every day. With this in mind, we’re thrilled to announce a couple of exciting new hires.

Mike Shields is joining us from the Wall Street Journal as Advertising Editor. Mike was previously Digital Editor at Adweek and Senior Editor at Digiday. He is exceptionally sourced, with more than a decade of experience on the advertising and media beats. (As we build out our advertising vertical, which Mike will oversee, we’ll also be adding another reporter to his team, which we’ll be announcing soon.)

Troy Wolverton is joining us from The San Jose Mercury News as Senior Technology Editor. He’ll be based in San Francisco, working closely with Alexei Oreskovic to continue growing our West Coast reporting bureau. Troy has two decades of experience, including eleven at the Mercury News, and was at The Street prior to that.

In addition, we want to announce a few well-deserved promotions:

Pamela Engel, who joined us four years ago, has been promoted to Politics Editor. She will also be working closely with Harrison Jacobs and the news team. She’ll also be growing the Politics team. Pam came to Business Insider from the Associated Press. She spent a year in London, helping Jim Edwards and Dina Spector launch BI UK. As a senior politics reporter, Pam dug into senior White House official Sebastian Gorka and has led our coverage of ISIS, terrorism, and conflict in the Middle East.

Hayley Hudson has been promoted to Global Head of Editorial Partnerships. Under Hayley, our contributors section has grown into one of our most powerful sources of traffic and impact, and we continue to feature high-profile outside authors ranging from Bill Gates to Lebron James to Jamie Dimon. Hayley also has recently expanded Business Insider’s reach to college newspapers across the country. In her new role, Hayley will be working with our 17 international editions of Business Insider to make sure our 80 million monthly US readers see more of the excellent work we’re producing abroad.

Please give them a warm welcome and a big congrats!
