Kirk LaPointe, the editor of Business in Vancouver, has been appointed publisher of Business in Vancouver Media Group.
A story on its website states, “He has been with BIV since October 2015, first as vice-president, audience and business development, then as editor-in-chief, following a three-decade career as a senior manager in Canadian media.”
LaPointe is the former executive director of the Organization of News Ombudsmen. In 2014 he ran for mayor of Vancouver under the banner of the Non-Partisan Association.
He was previously the publisher and editor-in-chief at Self-Counsel Press. He is the former CBC Ombudsman of English Services and held the senior editorial roles at CTV News, The Hamilton Spectator and Southam News.
He was the founding executive editor of National Post, managing editor of The Vancouver Sun,
Ottawa bureau chief and general news editor at The Canadian Press, and host on CBC Newsworld, among other media roles.
