Bob Mong, the editor of the Dallas Morning News, writes Sunday about business columnist Mitchell Schnurman.

Mong writes, “Mitch excels at writing about hot topics in the world of local business and economics with an unflinching clarity and a bit of an edge.

“He explored a range of challenging issues in recent weeks.

“Last Sunday, he waded into the troubled financial state of Energy Future Holdings, the electric utility that recently filed for bankruptcy. He built a compelling case about why ratepayers won’t suffer in the process.

“On Tuesday, he took on the battle between Southwest Airlines and Virgin America over two gates at Dallas Love Field, asking whether Dallas will be “on the right side of history” with its choice.

“The week before, Mitch zeroed in on mega-retailer Wal-Mart and its relationship with Dallas-based MoneyGram. “Living with Wal-Mart may be hard,” Mitch reported, “but living without it is harder.”

“In this Sunday’s column, Mitch took on Toyota’s recent announcement on why the automaker chose Plano for its U.S. headquarters over Dallas.”
