Kellen Browning

New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following on Friday:

We’re thrilled to announce that Kellen Browning is joining The Times as a technology reporter.

Since arriving in June as part of the 2020-21 New York Times Fellowship class, Kellen has tackled a wide variety of stories, including how TikTok teens disrupted a Trump rally; laptop shortages’ increasing the digital divide; a portrait of a teen Twitter hacker; and revealing “Roaring Kitty,” a key figure behind the GameStop stock mania. He has also covered the California wildfires, written Styles and Sports articles and dissected company earnings statements.

He did all this while meeting the challenge of joining a newsroom remotely with grace and humor, collaborating with many reporters across the newsroom.

Kellen graduated from Pomona College last May but he has already had a long history in journalism. He was named the 2016 National High School Journalist of the Year by the Journalism Education Association. While at Pomona, he was editor of The Student Life, the daily paper for the Claremont Colleges. He has also interned at The Boston Globe, The Claremont Courier, Kaiser Health News and The Sacramento Bee.

Kellen will be based in San Francisco.

Please join us in congratulating Kellen!
