Browning adds gig economy to NY Times tech beat

New York Times tech reporter Kellen Browning is adding the gig economy and companies such as Uber and DoorDash to his beat.

He also covers the video game industry for the Times and is based in San Francisco.

Browning was originally part of the 2020-21 New York Times Fellowship class, when he covered a wide variety of stories, including how TikTok teens disrupted a Trump rally; laptop shortages’ increasing the digital divide; a portrait of a teen Twitter hacker; and revealing “Roaring Kitty,” a key figure behind the GameStop stock mania.

He graduated from Pomona College. He was named the 2016 National High School Journalist of the Year by the Journalism Education Association. While at Pomona, he was editor of The Student Life, the daily paper for the Claremont Colleges.

He has also interned at The Boston Globe, The Claremont Courier, Kaiser Health News and The Sacramento Bee.
