BridgeTower acquires three South Carolina business newspapers

BridgeTower Media, which owns business newspapers across the country, has acquired South Carolina Business Publications, better known as SC Biz News, for an undisclosed amount.

SC Biz has publications in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville. The transaction, which closed on June 30, is BridgeTowers fourth acquisition over the past 14 months.

“The purchase of SC Biz News strengthens our commitment to local business coverage while expanding our database of small and medium-sized business customers,” said Adam Reinebach, president and CEO of BridgeTower, in a statement.. “We’re excited to be in a region poised for continued economic growth, as evidenced by last weeks commitments from Samsung and BMW to add jobs in South Carolina.”

The publications acquired are the Charleston Regional Business Journal, the Columbia Regional Business Report and the GSA Business Report. SC Biz also publishes a quarterly magazine covering the entire state, and it hosts several events.

BridgeTower Media, is part of Gatehouse Media, a newspaper company that owns more than 100 newspapers across the country. BridgeTower Media is the subsidiary that operates Gatehouse’s business publications.

In 2015, Gatehouse acquired the business newspapers previously operated by Dolan Media for $35 million. Those include 39 business, law and politics titles in 17 markets such as Long Island Business News, New Orleans CityBusiness, Arizona Capitol Times, the Daily Journal of Commerce in Oregon, Finance & Commerce in Minnesota, and the Idaho Business Review.

Since that time, the company has acquired other business news operations, including NJBiz.com, the Rochester Business Journal and the Central Penn Business Journal.
