Bodnar steps down as editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance

Janet Bodnar is stepping down as editor at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance after eight years in the role. She will be replaced by Mark Solheim.

Andrea Cwieka of the Washington Business Journal reports, “Solheim came to the magazine in 1980 as an editorial assistant, just ten months after Bodnar. He worked his way up the ladder, from winning a National Magazine Awards nomination for one of his cover stories to being editor of Kiplinger.com to heading the Money and Living sections. He has also served as the lead auto writer, managing editor and copy editor for the publication.

“‘There has never been a more exciting — or important — time for journalism, and the delivery of unbiased, accurate information and advice to American families,’ Solheim said in a press release. ‘The need for high-quality reporting by trained journalists has never been greater. I look forward to carrying on Kiplinger’s tradition of serving our readers in print as well as digital media.’

Bodnar took over the editor role in January 2009, during the recession, after 30 years as a reporter and deputy editor for the magazine. Bodnar also pioneered her now-famous ‘Money Smart Women’ column, which she will continue after her departure on July 7, as well as acting as an ambassador for the magazine in the media and during speaking engagements.”
