BNET expanding coverage to industries

Business news web site BNET, a division of CNET Networks, launched Tuesday a new section providing news and analysis for 11 major industries.

There’s a blast of original content running throughout the entire section,  in the form of industry blogs, says BNET executive editor Jeff Davis. “The audience for this is managers and executives in those industries — not the usual Wall Street perspective served up to investors,” says Davis in an e-mail to Talking Biz News.Â

More industries will be added later, says Davis, a former assistant managing editor of Business 2.0 who joined CNET in September.

The industries being covered are advertising, auto, energy, financial services, food, health care, media, pharmaceuticals, retail, technology and travel. The news will includ insight and analysis on mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, executive compensation and other big management issues, deal flow, industry data and research.

“BNET’s central content — from feature packages and our signature ‘crash courses’ to management-oriented blogs — helps managers and execs tackle their professional challenges, whether it’s corporate management and strategy or their own careers,” says Davis. “It’s all about trusted advice. BNET Industries adds a new dimension to the same overall premise: On top of that trusted advice is now a layer of news, analysis, company research etc  that keeps managers and execs sharp and up to date on everything going in on their industry.”

Among the writers who will be blogging are David Hamilton, a longtime Wall Street Journal reporter; Dan Mitchell, a tech writer for for the New York Times business section; Kevin Kelleher, a longtime columnist for TheStreet.com; and Jim Henry, a veteran auto writer for BusinessWeek and Automotive News.

Breaking news on the site is being covered with a feed from Reuters.

  • Hiya. I'm not a "tech writer," actually, or at least not solely. I write a column for the NYT called "What's Online" that's devoted to business in general. And for BNET, I'm writing about the food economy.
