Bloomberg’s Son hired by CNBC to cover banks

Hugh Son

CNBC.com managing editor Jeff McCracken sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

I am pleased to announce Hugh Son will join CNBC.com as a reporter covering the banking sector with a focus on JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and other top financial institutions. Hugh will report to John Melloy, the editor of our expanding markets and finance team.

Hugh has covered finance for Bloomberg News since 2006. He broke much of what the public knows about the U.S. bailout of AIG — from multimillion-dollar bonuses to the New York Fed’s actions to prop up AIG’s counterparties. He later covered Bank of America. More recently, he has been exploring the upheaval caused by technology at the banks and wrote a Businessweek cover essay on Jamie Dimon and Lloyd Blankfein.

Before Bloomberg, he spent eight years at the New York Daily News, covering real estate and politics. Hugh grew up in Queens and attended Stuyvesant High School and Binghamton University.

He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and kids. He enjoys running, basketball and reading about early human societies.

Please join me in welcoming Hugh to CNBC.
