Bloomberg’s Roberts hired by ProPublica

Larry Roberts, an editor for Bloomberg News in Washington for finance stories, has been hired by ProPublica.

Nicole Collins Bronzan of ProPublica writes, “He will start Nov. 24 and be based in Washington, DC.

“Roberts has been an investigative and enterprise editor at The Washington Post, the nonprofit Huffington Post Investigative Fund, the Hartford Courant and, most recently, Bloomberg News. At The Courant, he directed a Pulitzer-winning investigation into how the Hubble Space Telescope was launched with a flaw.

“‘In little more than six years, ProPublica has built an extraordinary operation for public service journalism,’ Roberts said. ‘I’m thrilled and honored to join a team whose great work has made such a powerful mark.’

“In his 14 years at The Post, he collaborated with Jeff Leen to shepherd Pulitzer-winning projects on the vice presidency of Dick Cheney and the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, as well as a probe of federal farm subsidies that was a Pulitzer finalist. As Post business editor, he led a series on AOL’s misleading accounting that won the Gerald Loeb award.”
