Bloomberg’s Edney sworn in as National Press Club president

Andrea Snyder Edney

Andrea Snyder Edney, an editor at Bloomberg News, was sworn in as the 111th president of the National Press Club on Saturday.

Edney, whom NPC members elected in December, began her official presidential duties on Jan. 19. In a special address to the National Press Club’s membership, she outlined her vision for the year ahead and stressed the need for the club’s continued commitment to the defense of press freedom.

“This is a critical year because journalism is under siege from many sides,” said Edney. “So this is the time to defend it, and to make sure that we all live up to the highest ethical standards.”

A National Press Club member since 2009, Edney most recently served as the vice president. Previously, Edney has also held secretary and treasurer positions on the board of governors, and was the longtime chair of the scholarship committee.

Edney first joined Bloomberg as a reporter in Prague in 1997.

“Bloomberg is strongly committed to defending the free press and producing journalism of the highest quality, so we’re honored that Andrea has been chosen to serve as president of the National Press Club,” said Bloomberg LP founder Michael Bloomberg in a statement. “She’s the sixth Bloomberg employee — and the second woman — to hold that position, and we know she’ll do as terrific a job as president as she has at Bloomberg.”
