Bloomberg’s De Vynck moves to Google beat; Carville to cover IBM

Bloomberg News tech reporter Gerrit De Vynck is moving to cover Google and parent company Alphabet Inc. along with reporter Mark Bergen.

He will remain in New York.

Olivia Carville is taking over coverage of IBM Corp. and East Coast startups.

De Vynck has been with Bloomberg since June 2013. He spent three years as its Canadian telecom, media and technology companies reporter with a focus on Rogers, Telus, BlackBerry and Canadian tech startups.

He’s been covering IBM and East Coast venture firms and startups since September 2017.

Carville has been on the wealth team covering how wealth is made, nurtured and lost in America and around the world.

She’s a recent graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and previously worked for the New Zealand Herald and Toronto Star.

Bloomberg made a similar move with its Amazon coverage, adding Matt Day to the beat along with Spencer Soper.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
