Burt Helm, former ad and marketing writer for BusinessWeek, is leaving the Bloomberg News wire for Inc. magazine as a senior writer.
Bloomberg made a push to keep Helm after he told them he was leaving for Inc., offering him a job in the Los Angeles bureau to cover parts of Walt Disney Co.
In an e-mail to the staff, Helm wrote, “I owe you all a huge debt. I began work at Businessweek a little more than six years ago, when I was just out of college. Since then, I’ve learned everything I know about journalism. I’ve worked, through good times and bad, with some of the smartest writers and editors on earth. I’ve had a lot of fun too. Businessweek and Bloomberg News have both been wonderfully rewarding places to work. I’ll miss you all.”
Prior to his position as BusinessWeek marketing department editor, he was a staff writer for BusinessWeek Online, a position he assumed in September, 2004. Previously, Helm held positions at Inc. and Maxim.
Helm is a graduate of Yale University, holding degrees in both English and physics.
