Candice Zachariahs, managing editor of Asia finance and investing, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:
We are very excited to welcome Nabila Ahmed to the Asia finance team. Nabila will cover banking and investing in Australia and be based out of Sydney.
She returns to Australia after a six-year stint in New York, most recently with the deals team where she helped break some of the biggest M&A transactions including Siemens Healthineers’s $16.4 billion takeover of Varian Medical Systems and Global Payments Inc.’s $21.5 billion merger with Total System Services. Nabila was previously on corporate finance as a senior reporter and team leader. She’s covered global conferences including Davos and Milken and appeared regularly on Bloomberg TV and radio.
Nabila touches down in Oz on Nov. 30, is taking some time off to get married (congratulations!), and will join the finance team after Australia Day. She’ll help on deals during the transition.
A few fun facts about Nabila and her career:
* The first person she ever interviewed was Australian cricketer Dean Jones — back when she was in high school. She eventually became one of only two female cricket writers in Australia, working for The Age newspaper in Melbourne.
* She won a Walkley Award in 2014 for a scoop on corporate governance failures at Australia’s oldest department store chain David Jones, a story that forced the chairman and two other directors to resign.
* She beat Alicia Keys in the New York Marathon in 2016.
Nabila is now looking forward to Boxing Day Tests at the MCG, swimming in the ocean and getting in some quality time with family.
Please join us in congratulating Nabila and welcoming her to the team and the region.
