Bloomberg names Whitelaw its Brussels bureau chief

Bloomberg’s Chad Thomas, managing editor for Western Europe, and David Merritt, senior executive editor for EMEA, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We’re thrilled to announce that Kevin Whitelaw, deputy managing editor for U.S. government coverage, will succeed Nikos Chrysoloras as Brussels bureau chief.

Kevin will fit right into the Brussels world of all-night summits and continuous crises, having overseen coverage of the Robert Mueller probe, Trump’s two impeachment trials and the U.S. election aftermath. He’ll also bring his well- honed skills at getting folks to work together, helping manage the output of dozens of reporters and editors covering the White House, Congress, politics, national security and regulation in his current role in DC.

Kevin joined Bloomberg in 2016 as the Congress team leader and before that worked at Congressional Quarterly, National Public Radio and U.S. News and World Report. In his reporting days at U.S. News, he spent more than 10 years covering national security and intelligence, and reported from conflict zones around the world, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.

The move to Europe is also a return home of sorts for Kevin, who was born in London and went to high school in Brussels.

Nikos, who is taking on a tailor-made role as a senior markets reporter directly under Celeste Perri, will continue to run Brussels on a day-to-day basis until Kevin is able to make the transition over to the continent.
