She replaces Renee Dudley, whose aggressive reporting on the world’s largest retailer got her banned from its media events. Dudley left to work at Reuters.
Pettypiece has been at Bloomberg for nine years, covering many aspects of the health care system, including big pharma, biotech and the impact of Obamacare. Her reporting last year on medical-data privacy won a New York Press Club award and was a finalist for the SABEW Best In Business award. Pettypiece recently covered patients’ struggle to find psychiatrists willing to treat them and patients going to extremes to obtain an expensive hepatitis drug.
Before joining Bloomberg, Pettypiece worked for Crain’s Cleveland Business and Miami Today News. She got her start in journalism with an internship at The New York Times in Washington after graduating from University of Michigan. She later worked for the Times in Detroit.
