Bloomberg names new Asia regional manager, Businessweek deputy editors

Bloomberg editor in chief John Micklethwait announced several major job changes in the company’s news organization on Tuesday, including a new Asia regional manager and two new deputy editors for Bloomberg Businessweek, which will relaunch in June.

Otis Bilodeau, who has been deputy editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, is moving to Hong Kong to become Asia regional manager for Bloomberg. Bilodeau has had a number of previous roles at Bloomberg, including overseeing its global finance, investing and real-estate coverage and as global executive editor for Bloomberg Television.

He succeeds David Merritt, who is returning to London.

“Otis will relocate to Hong Kong in June,” said Micklethwait in a note to the staff. “As David settles in in London, we’ve asked him to work with Jon Moore and lead the collaboration efforts to integrate BNEF into our broader organization. Both David and Otis will be senior executive editors and report to Reto and me.”

Meanwhile, Jim Aley and Howard Chua-Eoan have been named deputy editors of Bloomberg Businessweek, reporting to editor Megan Murphy.

Chua-Eoan joined the magazine in 2014 after three decades at Time magazine and manages the front of the magazine. Aley came from Fortune in 2009 and oversees features. Both will continue to run their sections in addition to their new deputy duties.

Lastly, Bloomberg named Aaron Kirchfeld in London as executive editor for global deals news.

“To bolster our reporting in New York following the departure of Jeff McCracken, Ed Hammond is now the senior Deals reporter, while Alex Sherman will host the weekly Deals TV segment and expand our M&A reporting on TV,” said Micklethwait in his note. “Ed and Alex report to Lizzie Fournier, who will continue to run the U.S. team. We will advertise for a new Deals team leader in Europe.”
