He will replace Karen Toulon.
Toulon has been named executive editor for Global Newsmaker editorial boards, a role where she will oversee the news organization’s editorial boards that bring business leaders, government officials and other news makers to Bloomberg bureaus globally.
The switch is the latest maneuver under new editor in chief John Micklethwait, who joined Bloomberg earlier this year from The Economist and has been revamping how the editorial operation is run.
Kelly has covered private equity, global finance and technology, and he was managing editor of Bloomberg’s conference business. Before that, he worked in Atlanta for digital south magazine and the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Kelly is the author of “The New Tycoons: Inside the Trillion Dollar Industry That Owns Everything,” published in 2012. He’s currently working on a second book about the business of fitness. Kelly has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.
Toulon has been at Bloomberg since 1999 and became bureau chief in 2007. Before that, she was with Reuters and CNBC. She has degrees from Dartmouth and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
