Bloomberg Media hires head of subscription revenue

Roma Vakil

Scott Havens, Bloomberg Media’s global head of digital, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

All,
As we lean into 2017 with an aggressive slate of digital launches and enhancements, we are also modernizing our approach to consumer marketing and subscription revenue.

Today, I’m very excited to announce that Roma Vakil is joining us as our Global Head of Consumer Subscription Revenue and Strategy. Roma, who was most recently Head of Acquisition Marketing for TheStreet, is an accomplished digital marketing leader who has implemented innovative acquisition, engagement and retention strategies to drive revenue growth for both TheStreet and American Express. Roma will partner closely with Megan Murphy on Bloomberg Businessweek as we reinvent the magazine across our multiple platforms in Q2 and most importantly, drive incremental digital and print subscriptions. She will also be tasked with overseeing the growth of Bloomberg Markets and Bloomberg Briefs.

Prior to TheStreet, Roma spent 11 years at American Express in a variety of roles within the Consumer Credit Card business, including Director of Customer Relationship Marketing and Director of New Product Launch Marketing. She led the launch of cross-sell, upgrade, and personal lending programs, which drove a 700% increase in consumer card sales and spending. Roma also served as Chief-of-Staff for the Executive Vice President of the Consumer Card business, where she partnered closely with the senior executive team to develop the business strategy for the consumer business.

Roma started her career at IBM as a financial analyst. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Math/Statistics, where she also received her MBA in Marketing.

Roma will be sitting on the 4th floor at 731 Lexington with our Bloomberg Digital team joining Courtney Martens, Tom Gambardella and the rest of the Consumer Marketing team, who just moved up to be closer to us. Please join me in welcoming Roma to Bloomberg.
