He replaces Stuart Wallace, who becomes news director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Bloomberg.
Both are based in London.
Kennedy was previously managing editor of energy and commodities coverage in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has been a reporter and editor covering energy for Bloomberg in Singapore and London since 2007.
Before Bloomberg, he covered the shipping industry in Asia for TradeWinds.
Wallace had been in his previous role since July 2015. He had worked as a reporter, editor, team leader and managing editor in energy and commodities the previous 15 years at Bloomberg.
In 2015, Bloomberg created a new group combining all of its metals, mining, agriculture, oil and power and gas coverage, including Bloomberg First Word oil.
