Shawn Donnan joins in August as a senior reporter covering world trade and globalization, based in Washington. He will work alongside other Bloomberg journalists on coverage of NAFTA and trade with China, among other subjects.
He will report to Simon Kennedy, executive editor for economics, and work with all of Bloomberg News’ regional teams.
Donnan had been with the Financial Times since 2002 and most recently served as a world trade editor. Prior to that, he was the newspaper’s world news editor and also reported and edited in Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Jenny Leonard joined Bloomberg last month to cover trade in Washington. She reports to Brendan Murray, managing editor of the U.S. economics team. She most recently reported for Inside US Trade.
“These talented individuals will add depth and experience to our coverage of global trade and the economics of globalization, and also underscore our commitment to providing clients with top-notch economic research in Asia and the U.S.,” said Stephanie Flanders, Bloomberg senior executive editor for economics, in a statement.
Bloomberg’s economics team has more than 100 reporters and 25 economists across the globe.
“Bringing economists and reporters together within Bloomberg Economics has already given us an edge in covering the increasingly important trade story, with major scoops on developments in NAFTA and China trade talks and original research from economists on the potential economic impact of a global trade war,” said Flanders. “We’re looking to build on that success with two excellent new additions to our trade team.”
