Bloomberg hires two in DC bureau

Bloomberg News executive editor and Winnie O’Kelley and managing editor Craig Gordon sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We’re excited to announce two additions to the Washington bureau.

Toluse Olorunnipa is joining us from the Bloomberg bureau in Tallahassee, where he wrote about how Gov. Rick Scott used corporate money to fund his travels and how Sheldon Adelson tried to bring gambling to the Sunshine State. Tolu was on the ground for Bloomberg during the unrest in Ferguson, where he put readers into the middle of the story with smart, tireless coverage. Tolu impressed all during a brief stay in Washington last fall, and now we’re thrilled to have him here full time. He’ll start his DC duties with a stint at the White House.

We’re also boosting our White House staff with the hire of Justin Sink, a White House correspondent at The Hill. Justin has been covering the Obama administration since the summer of 2011. He immediately won us over with his energy, reporting chops and smarts. Justin will hold down the fort on the early-morning shift at the White House, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.

In recent weeks, our teams have broken some big stories, including our recent scoop that made Bloomberg first to reveal details of the president’s corporate tax plan. Stories like these put us ahead of the competition on topics Bloomberg readers care about most. With the addition of Tolu and Justin, we know that Bloomberg’s DC bureau will continue its commitment to being the first (and last) word in breaking news.

Please welcome Justin and Tolu to the team.
