Bloomberg hires new e-commerce reporter

Spencer Soper, a business reporter for the Allentown Morning Call, has been hired by Bloomberg News to cover e-commerce companies such as Amazon and eBay.

He will be based out of Bloomberg’s San Francisco bureau and will start Aug. 25. His last day at the Morning Call is Friday.

At the Morning Call, Soper also wrote On The Cheap, a column featuring the clever and quirky things people do to save money, and Valley Business Buzz, a digital business newsletter sent to subscribers every weekday.

For the past year, Soper was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University. He has been working at the Morning Call since 2005. Before that, he was a staff writer at the Santa Rosa Press Democrat in California and the North County Times, also in California.

Soper is best known for his 2011 story “Inside Amazon’s Warehouse,” which won numerous awards, including a Gerald Loeb Award. He spoke with Talking Biz News about reporting and writing the story here.
