Bloomberg hires Nahmias to cover New York City

Laura Nahmias

Bloomberg News New York/New Jersey bureau chief Shelly Banjo sent out the following announcement on Monday:

Good morning,

Laura Nahmias is joining Bloomberg News on Dec. 6 as a Senior Reporter, where she will drive coverage of New York City and state.

Laura will cover City Hall and incoming mayor Eric Adams, as well as Governor Kathy Hochul and the 2022 New York governor’s race. She’ll also help chronicle New York’s economic recovery as the financial  capital rebuilds from a crippling pandemic, redefines work culture and big-city life, and embracers a new mayor and governor for the first time in a decade. She will report to me.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Laura quotes E.B. White when describing herself as “the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something.”

Laura has spent more than a decade covering New York City and state politics at City & State Magazine, Politico and the Daily News, where she was a member of the Editorial Board. Since June, she’s written several features for New York Magazine, including Andrew Cuomo’s first post-resignation interview and a deep-dive story on Hochul, where the governor divulges her strategy over rice pudding at an upstate diner.

Laura is equally comfortable diving into city budgets, lobbying reports and FOIL requests as she is breaking news, writing magazine stories and appearing on TV. She’s excited to have a global platform to tell New York’s next chapter.

Please join me in welcome Laura to Bloomberg.
