Gregory Korte

Bloomberg News has hired USA Today reporter Gregory Korte to be part of its 2020 election coverage team.

Bloomberg Washington bureau chief Craig Gordon sent out the following on Monday:

All — Please join us in welcoming Gregory Korte, a senior national correspondent for USA TODAY, to our 2020 campaign team.

Gregory stood out in our minds because he brings a significant background in White House and congressional reporting but also some all-important data chops to the job. As a White House correspondent for USA Today, Gregory won the Gerald R. Ford Foundation Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency for coverage of President Obama’s last year in office. What helped him win the prize was a series of stories he did on Obama’s pardons and commutations – based in part on a database he built by hand. As a Congress reporter for the paper, he filed 120-plus Freedom of Information Act requests a year, including several for never-before-released data sets.

As we all know, data is in the DNA of Bloomberg, and we’re eager to turn him loose on some Bloomberg-style data related the economy, jobs and of course, the campaign. As an Ohio native who also worked at the Cincinnati Enquirer and Akron Beacon Journal, Gregory knows his way around the state that’s a must-win for any White House contender.

Gregory will join us later this month. Please make him feel at home.
