Bloomberg hires Javier Blas from FT

Javier Blas, who had been Africa editor at the Financial Times, has been hired by Bloomberg, where he will be “reporter-at-large” in the energy, environment and commodities team, based in London.

He will start at Blooomberg in March

Blas had been Africa editor at the FT for the past 18 months, based in London.

Before that, he was commodities editor and a commodities correspondent. He managed the oil and commodities coverage of the Financial Times with a team of correspondents and reporters in London and New York. He also launched the annual FT Global Commodities Summit, the largest gathering of C-suite executives in the commodities trading sector.

Blas previously worked for Expansion, a Spanish-based business publication.

He is a graduate of the University of Navarra.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
