Bloomberg hires editor at large for markets team

Phil Revzin, a longtime Wall Street Journal reporter and editor, has been hired by Bloomberg News to be an editor at large on the markets team.

His first day is Monday. He will edit enterprise stories.

Revzin is a native of Chicago. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Stanford University and a master’s degree in English from Columbia University.

Revzin first came to the Journal as a Newspaper Fund summer reporting intern while at Stanford University. He returned to the Journal in 1974 as a reporter in the Cleveland bureau. In 1977 he was transferred to the London bureau, and he returned to the U.S. in the fall of 1980 as assistant bureau chief in New York.

In 1983 Revzin was named London bureau chief, and in January 1986, he transferred to Paris as bureu chief. He became editor of the Wall Street Journal Europe, based in Brussels in November 1991. He was named to the additional post of publisher in July 1994.

Revzin won the Overseas Press Club of America citation for best business news reporting from abroad in 1977 for an article on the aftereffects of a chemical plant explosion on a small Italian town. In 1988 he shared the Overseas Press Club Bob Considine Award with four other Journal reporters for a series on the rise of Islam, published in 1987. He received the 1989 OPC award for best business news reporting from abroad for his coverage in 1988 of Europe’s progress toward achieving commercial unity in 1992.

For the past six years, Revzin has been working in book publishing with St. Martin’s Press as a senior editor.
