Emily Banks credit Paul VincentJosh Topolsky, editor for Bloomberg Digital and chief digital content officer for Bloomberg Media, sent the following hiring announcement to the staff this morning:

Some very exciting news to share. Emily Banks (@emjbanks) will be joining us on June 1st as Deputy Editor, Mobile. She’ll focus on strengthening our existing mobile strategy (both editorially and from a product perspective) and developing new mobile products. We’re already creating amazing content for Bloomberg Business – unparalleled stories, analysis, graphics, data, video, art, and photography – and Emily will help us bring all of that content to an even larger audience in whole new ways. She’ll also work hand-in-hand with editors, reporters, and our social team to create specialized content and tools for our mobile readers (an ever-growing population). Although Bloomberg Business was designed to render seamlessly on mobile devices, we’re going to deliver new and engaging experiences for our audience and publish even more mobile-first content – and Emily is the perfect person to lead those efforts.

With experience in web, print, television, and radio, Emily has a dynamic outlook that will make her a perfect fit for the team. When I first met Emily I was struck by how nuanced, insightful, and modern her thoughts were on the news business, and I have no doubt she will leverage her considerable talents to strengthen what we do every day. Emily comes to Bloomberg from the Wall Street Journal where she was lead news editor for mobile content, bringing the redesigned WSJ.com to mobile. Before that, she was the managing editor at Mashable. Emily, a Minnesota native (forward all good Minnesotan jokes to me, please), has traditional journalism roots, beginning her career as a reporter at community newspapers in Wisconsin and Georgia, as well as in public broadcasting in Atlanta.

Emily slipped me this note to pass along to the team: “As both a media observer and former competitor, I’ve been so impressed with Bloomberg Business since its launch. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a talented team and use Bloomberg reporting to create singular content for mobile platforms and readers. It’s going to be fun. Looking forward to meeting everyone in June.”

Please join me in welcoming her to the family!
