Bloomberg is considering offering subscriptions of up to $1,000 a year for its Web site, writes Russell Adams of The Wall Street Journal.
Adams writes, “Such a move, disclosed Tuesday to Bloomberg employees at a meeting at Bloomberg News, would be the latest in a succession of steps by the financial data giant to expand its business beyond subscriptions to its Bloomberg Professional service.
“Currently, access to Bloomberg.com is free, although the Web site features only some of the news stories available to subscribers of Bloomberg Professional, which bundles financial data, analytics and news for a fee of $1,500 per month.
“Under one plan being considered for the Web site, Bloomberg would sell subscriptions to feeds of stories on specific topics, Kevin Krim, who runs Bloomberg.com, told employees. Mr. Krim said Bloomberg.com is considering charging between about $600 and $1,000 annually beginning sometime next year.”
