Bloomberg buys British news provider

Bloomberg L.P. said Thursday it has acquired New Energy Finance, a provider of news, data and analysis on renewable energy, carbon markets and nuclear power, according to a Dow Jones Newswires story.

Yun-Hee KIm writes, “Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. ‘This acquisition is the next step in Bloomberg’s initiative to develop and promote the carbon and clean energy markets,’ Peter T. Grauer, chairman of Bloomberg, said in a statement.

“U.K.-based New Energy Finance, founded in 2004, serves banking, private-equity and venture-capital investors. It has a work force of more than 130.

“The latest deal comes after Bloomberg earlier this month completed the purchase of BusinessWeek magazine from McGraw-Hill Cos. It also named earlier this month Dow Jones & Co. veteran Paul Bascobert to head the newly acquired unit, as the financial-data and news company continues to put its imprint on the recently purchased magazine.”
