Bloomberg Businessweek names new deputy editor

Bloomberg Businessweek announced Monday that Romesh Ratnesar will be joining the magazine as deputy editor.

Ratnesar will report to editor Josh Tyrangiel and joins executive editors Ellen Pollock and Brad Wieners and managing editor Kristin Powers on the magazine’s senior management team.

He replaces Eric Pooley, who left last month to join the Environmental Defense Fund.

“I’ve worked closely with Romesh for a number of years, both at Time and as a contributor to Bloomberg Businessweek,” said Tyrangiel in a statement.  “He brings a wealth of experience and intellect that’s going to make us even smarter in print and online.”

Ratnesar joins Bloomberg Businessweek after more than a decade at Time, where he was most recently a contributing editor-at-large and foreign affairs columnist for Time.com.   Ratnesar previously served as Time’s deputy managing editor and foreign editor, in addition to stints as a correspondent and staff writer for Time and Time International.

Ratnesar has written for The New Republic, Slate, The Washington Post, The  Washington Monthly, The New York Post and Mother Jones. He is the author of “Tear Down This Wall: A City, A President, and the Speech That Ended the Cold War.” (Simon & Schuster, 2009)

Currently a fellow at the New America Foundation, Ratnesar received his bachelors and master’s degrees in history from Stanford University.
