Bloomberg bond columnist receives career achievement award

Joe Mysak, a columnist for Bloomberg News who has covered the municipal bond market for three decades, received a career achievement award Thursday evening from the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.

The NFMA is holding its annual conference in Las Vegas at the Four Seasons. In his acceptance speech, Mysak saluted “the storytellers” who clue him in on “the real story.”

Mysak has been reporting on the municipal bond market since 1981, when he began as a copy editor at the Bond Buyer. He rose through the ranks there, eventually becoming editor and publisher, and also served a stint as editor of American Banker.

From 1995 to 1999, he worked with Jim Grant, and put out Grant’s Municipal Bond Observer and Grant’s Municipal Bond Issuer.

Since 1999, he has been a columnist with Bloomberg. His work has also appeared in Barron’s, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Review and The American Spectator.

Mysak is the author of the book “Handbook for Muni-Bond Issuers” and “Encyclopedia of Municipal Bonds: A Reference Guide to Market Events, Structures, Dynamics, and Investment Knowledge.”
