Bloomberg BNA hires Dunbar as investigations editor

John Dunbar

Bloomberg BNA announced Monday that it has hired award-winning investigative journalist John Dunbar as investigations editor.

In this newly created position, Dunbar, who most recently served as CEO of the Center for Public Integrity, reports to editor-in-chief Cesca Antonelli.

Dunbar will be creating a projects team within the news organization which will handle all investigative reporting for the legal, tax, environment, and government markets.  In this position, he will lead some of the newsroom’s most high-profile reporting projects.

“We’re excited to add John Dunbar, a highly respected and accomplished journalist, to this key leadership position within our news organization,” said Antonelli in a statement.  “John has done grounding-breaking work at the intersection of business, government influence and regulation, and we’re looking forward to bringing that expertise to Bloomberg BNA.”

Prior to being named CEO of the Center for Public Integrity, Dunbar held a number of roles within the organization including reporter, project manager, deputy executive editor, and political editor.  He has been a reporter with the Associated Press and the Florida Times-Union and was a project director with American University’s Investigative Reporting Workshop.

“I am thrilled to come to work for Bloomberg BNA and have long been an admirer of the depth of knowledge of BloombergBNA’s reporters and editors,” said Dunbar. “I plan to tap that expertise and produce truly outstanding investigative reporting.”

Dunbar has won numerous awards for editing and writing over his two-plus decades in journalism, including a George W. Polk Award for Business Writing for his role as project creator, editor, and writer of the Center’s “After the Meltdown,” which explored the mortgage foreclosure crisis.
