John Micklethwait, editor in chief of Bloomberg News, announced a number of staff changes in advance of its annual editorial and research managers’ meeting.

They include:

  • Executive editor Madeleine Lim moves to Hong Kong from New York and will take over North Asia, including China, Japan and the Koreas.
  • Executive editor Sarah Wells will take over coverage of South Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand.

“Although Sarah and Madeleine will have clearly defined geographic responsibilities, our intention is that they will run the entire Asian region together and help drive our growth plans, which include a new bureau in Shenzhen, a second bureau in Vietnam and an expansion of our reporting team for Credit in Southeast Asia,” wrote Micklethwait in a memo to the staff.

  • Jonas Bergman, Bloomberg’s Oslo bureau chief, will move to Hong Kong as a senior editor for finance.
  • Matt Campbell will become Bloomberg Businessweek’s editor in Asia.
  • Otis Bilodeau is returning to New York in December and taking over the projects and investigations team.

“One of the places where we would like to increase our investigative heft is Asia, and Otis will help do that,” wrote Micklethwait.

  • Tim Quinson will become czar of environment, sustainability and green finance coverage.
  • Edwards Evans takes over from Emma Ross Thomas in the job of overseeing Brexit coverage.
  • Sarah Kopit becomes social media czar for the terminal.
  • Mike Riley becomes cybersecurity czar.

In addition, Bloomberg’s Japanese, Russian, German, Spanish and Portuguese local language teams will now report to regional managing editors.

  • Mexico City bureau chief Carlos Rodriguez will now be senior editor for Spanish-language content.
  • Julia Leite is the new Brazil chief.
  • Andrea Jaramillo becomes bureau chief in Bogota.

In addition:
