Biz news anchor Claman dresses not to detract

Lauren Lipton of Forbes Woman writes about Fox Business Network anchor Liz Claman and how she decides what to wear on the air.

Lipton writes, “She calls it ‘business sexy,’ a confident, camera-friendly blend of body-conscious knits and tailored separates, minimal jewelry — and the occasional leopard-print shoe. The idea is to look approachable without taking viewers’ attention away from the news. ‘To attract,’ she says, ‘not distract.’

“Claman grew up in Beverly Hills, Calif., in an entertainment-industry family that didn’t quite understand her dream of becoming a news anchor. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, she did grunt work at a Los Angeles station before landing an on-air job in Columbus, Ohio.

“When CNBC asked her to come aboard in 1998, she jumped at the chance to move to a larger market and learn business news. She studied up on the stock market and became known for her interviews with such titans as Bill Gates.”
