Biz journalists win Front Page Awards

The Newswomen’s Club of New York named Thursday the winners of the 2014 Front Page Awards, and six of them came from business journalism.

Jennifer Reingold of Fortune won in the business reporting category for “Squeezing Heinz.”

In the wire services categories, Megan Twohey of Reuters won in in-depth reporting for “The Child Exchange” while Janet Lorin of Bloomberg News won in the beat reporting category for “Doctor Dreams.”

In the feature category, Carol Hymowitz of Bloomberg News won for “At 61 She Lives in Basement, While 87-Year-Old Dad Travels World.”

In the online categories, Tatiana Serafin of Forbes won in the blogging category for her series on the Ukraine.

Amanda Levin of The Deal won in the spot news category for “Unsolicited Bid Puts Cleco on the Block.”

“Companies are not required to disclose any M&A activity they might be engaging in until the deal actually happens, which isn’t in the best interest of the public. Amanda’s scoop broke this news, empowering our audience – and ultimately Cleco’s shareholders – to get a better understanding of the potential deal,” remarked Jeffrey Kanige, editor in chief of The Deal, in a statement.

The Front Page Awards, established in 1938, help the Club fulfill its mission to promote exceptional work by women in the news business. The 2014 Front Page Awards will be presented at a black tie gala on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Down Town Association in Manhattan.
