Biz journalist Kissi named Tow-Knight fellow

Dawn Kissi, founder of new digital startup Emerging Market Views, which debuted this winter, has been named a Tow-Knight Fellow in Entrepreneurial Journalism.

Based at CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism recently welcomed its seventh entrepreneurial journalism cohort. The program this year runs from Jan. 17 – May 19, 2017.

Rising stars from various industries make up the 16 fellows in the program. Each fellow in the program develops his/her own startup project over four months in NYC, while taking classes in business fundamentals, new biz models, entrepreneurial skills, and more.

In addition, the fellows visit top startups and newsrooms in the greater New York metro area. Graduates of the program have gone on to launch media ventures ranging from Skillcrush, Narratively, NK News, and Purple to How India Lives, The Edge, Coda Story, and Bushwick Daily.

“I am thrilled to have been selected as a Tow-Knight Fellow,” Kissi said. “As a founder and CEO of my own new media venture, the business model development coupled with the academic aspect of building a new business is exciting. Given the new pace of our industry, Jeremy and Jeff are much-needed mentors to have.”

The program is overseen by professors Jeff Jarvis and Jeremy Caplan.
