Food writer Mark Bittman is joining Fast Company as an online columnist.
Bittman recently left his post at The New York Times to join the vegan meal kit delivery service Purple Carrot. In his bi-monthly column, the veteran journalist and cookbook author will write about his adventures in the startup world.
“I had not seen an honest account of going through the start-up process, an as-it-happens story,” said Bittman in a statement. “And really, I wanted to write about it for myself. But as a journalist – well, we don’t write things for ourselves. We publish. And as I thought about where to publish this, Fast Company was the clear choice. Fortunately, they felt the same.”
With his deep knowledge of the food world, Bittman thought joining this startup would be a piece of cake. But as he writes in his inaugural Fast Company column, the transition to business life has been a lot harder than he thought it would be.
