Bilodeau named global exec editor of Bloomberg Television

As we strive to become a more integrated organization that breaks news and provides smart analysis across all our media, we need to make sure we share the same standards and sensibilities everywhere. Here are several promotions that will help us achieve our goals.

Otis Bilodeau, who until now has overseen our award-winning global finance, investing and real-estate coverage, becomes Global Executive Editor for TV, reporting to Claudia Milne. Otis will set the editorial agenda for all our TV channels and ensure even closer alignment across the organization.

Alec McCabe, the team leader for training in the Americas for the past five years, will join Bloomberg Radio as head of podcasts, reporting to Al Mayers, and help develop a number of new radio shows, including a a Bloomberg View program, an Economics program, and a Politics podcast.

Tim Coulter, currently an editor-at-large on the energy team in London and the former managing editor of the beat globally, will become a senior editor for the web and help get the European version of the site off the ground, reporting to Nate Lanxon.

Jared Sandberg, who for the past four years has proven to be a master of collaboration, becomes the executive editor of our flagship site globally, reporting to Josh Topolsky.

Michael Shane, currently the director of operations for Bloomberg Digital, becomes a managing editor, also reporting to Josh.

Christine Harper will succeed Otis as executive editor for finance and investing. Christine, who joined us in 1998 as a telecom reporter, has covered companies, markets and finance and is currently the managing editor for finance in New York.

Winnie O’Kelley, who already oversees Legal, Financial Regulation and Enforcement as executive editor in the U.S., assumes global responsibility for these beats. Winnie will also add Market Structure to her brief, so the regulators and the markets they regulate are all covered by the same teams.

Heather Smith, who joined us from American Lawyer magazine in 2006 and has covered legal issues in Paris, technology in London and currently runs the financial crimes team in Europe, becomes the new global managing editor for legal news and will relocate to New York. Heather succeeds Pat Oster, who asked to step down after more than a decade building and overseeing our legal coverage.

Alan Goldstein, who has been in charge of the U.S. states and municipal finance team for the past year, succeeds Christine in her current role. We will assign municipal finance reporters to the Markets team and the local government reporters to the U.S. government team.

As I mentioned previously, I’m here to listen, learn and lead, and I’ve heard everyone loud and clear that we need more editing power regionally, both for big breaking stories and for enterprise. To that end, we are creating three regional editing hubs with some of our most senior editors, led by managing editors Brian Bremner in Asia, Jim Hertling in Europe and David Papadopoulos for the Americas. The three of them will report to David Gillen in New York and regional executive editors Heather Harris and David Merritt for Europe and Asia.
