Bell named Charlotte Observer business editor

Adam Bell

Adam Bell has been named the business editor of The Charlotte Observer, a position he has held on an interim basis since September.

He will also oversee some special projects and guide some additional coverage.

Bell replaces John Arwood, who left the paper last year.

“He’s a veteran reporter (I first met him here when he was an intern) and editor and has been an excellent leader for our business team since John left late last summer,” said executive editor Sherry Chisenhall in an email to Talking Biz News.

Bell has been at the paper since 1999. He is also weekend night editor, assigning stories, editing copy and overseeing production of the paper.

In 2017, he spent two months filling in as the morning digital news editor, where he supervised four reporters and helped guide the day’s news coverage. Bell also used his extensive skills to train Observer staff on best practices for growing online engagement.

Before the Observer, Bell was a statehouse reporter for the Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot-News from 1992 to 1999 and a reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times from 1988 to 1992.
