Behind the scenes with Fox Business at Berkshire annual meeting

Fox Business Network provided the following details of its coverage of the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting this weekend in Omaha, Neb.

Anchor Liz Claman was part of a nine-person crew from Fox Business that included cameramen and producers.

Fox Business had asked how CEO Warren Buffett prepared for the annual meeting, which drew 40,000 people, so Buffett brought them along to a local bridge club where he sat down and played cards for three hours. Claman spoke with him for about 10 minutes and was the first to report that his company’s performance has seen an uptick, and got his comments on Goldman.

On Friday, Claman and the crew set up at Borsheim’s jewelry store and reported live from one of the biggest destinations for the shareholders – the jewelry store that was offering huge discounts to shareholders – and they even let Liz wear some of the jewelry. Claman spoke to various shareholders, CEOs and experts while there — and she also took pictures with fans while wearing $9 million worth of jewelry.

On Saturday, the Fox Business crew arrived at the Qwest Center at 5 a.m. for a security check. Fox Business was chosen as one of eight media outlets Buffett agreed to give one-on-one interviews to. The rules – 5 minutes and no boom microphones hitting Buffett’s head.

The shareholder meeting went on for hours, and Fox Business was the only network that brought viewers a live broadcast during the lunch hour. During that time, Claman interviewed all three Buffett children, along with Ralph Nader and the CEOs of Berkshire-owned Burlington Northern, Shaw Industries, Acme Brick, Dairy Queen and Clayton Homes.

On Sunday, Claman and crew attended the Buffett-Charlie Munger news conference, where Claman had a quick 2-minute interview with Buffett. And on Monday, she had the only sit-down interview with Warren Buffett, Munger and Bill Gates. The interview was an hour long and aired live without commercial interruption and has been picked up by wires, bloggers and papers.
