Barrett leaves Bloomberg Businessweek for NYU

Paul Barrett

Paul Barrett, the special projects editor and a feature writer at Bloomberg Businessweek, has left the magazine.

Barrett is now the deputy director at New York University’s Stern Center for Business and Human Rights.

He worked at Bloomberg for the last 12 years. He was also assistant managing editor for investigative projects at the magazine before it was acquired by Bloomberg.

Before BusinessWeek, Barrett reported and edited for The Wall Street Journal from 1987 to 2005, with stints as a reporter in Philadelphia, New York and Washington. He has been U.S. Supreme Court correspondent, deputy legal editor and, from 2000 to 2005, a leading editor of Page One stories.

Three of his own articles have been nominated by the newspaper for the Pulitzer Prize, and his 2003 piece on immigrant Muslim students in the U.S. won a 2004 Missouri School of Journalism Lifestyle Award.

Barrett is also the author of “Law of the Jungle: The $19 Billion Legal Battle Over Oil in the Rain Forest And the Lawyer Who’d Stop at Nothing to Win.”

He has a bachelor’s degree in American history and a law degree, both from Harvard University.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
