Glenn Hall, global chief editor for Dow Jones Newswires, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:
I am very pleased to announce that Robert Barba is the new Spot News Editor for the Americas at Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal.
Robert is a versatile editor, quick on the draw with breaking news and a deft wordsmith when it comes to enterprise. As interim spot news chief during the intense earnings period that recently ended, Robert showed his ability to drive coverage, prioritize on the fly and ensure everything runs smoothly.
During his 16 months as deputy spot news editor, Robert demonstrated strong leadership, excellent collaboration and poise under pressure. He has been through the ultimate training program for this role, and I am confident our breaking news coverage will continue to flourish with him at the helm.
Robert’s qualifications are impeccable. He brings 15 years of experience leading, editing and covering business, economy and company news at award-winning media, including American Banker and Bankrate. Robert also represents Dow Jones as a board member of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) and is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
A Denver native, Robert graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder. These days, he lives in the East Village and decompresses from the pressures of earnings season by doing yard work and other volunteer activities at a community garden.
Please join me in congratulating Robert on his promotion.
