Bancrofts still split; decision by Friday

Jesse Noyes of the Boston Herald writes Tuesday that the Bancroft family remains divided over whether to sell Dow Jones & Co., the parent of The Wall Street Journal, to News Corp. for $5 billion.

Noyes wrote, “A decision on the future of Dow Jones & Co. and its flagship Wall Street Journal could come by Friday, Christopher Bancroft, a senior member of the family that controls the publishing empire said in Boston yesterday.

“‘We’re still undecided,’ Bancroft said. ‘Everyone has to decide for himself.’

“Christopher Bancroft made his comments as he departed the Hilton Hotel in Boston, where members of the Bancroft family gathered to mull over a potential blockbuster sale of Dow Jones to media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

“The family had a very productive meeting and now have all the information they need to make a good decision on the News Corp. offer,’ Hemenway & Barnes lawyer Michael Elefante told reporters outside a hotel where the family was meeting.”
