Aaron Kirchfield, executive editor of global deals at Bloomberg News, sent out the following on Wednesday:

Dear all,

We’re excited to announce that Liana Baker will be taking over as managing editor of the U.S. deals team, succeeding Lizzie Fournier, who is moving to the Americas editing hub after eight years with us, where she nimbly transitioned from U.K. business daily City A.M. to the deals team in London before impressively navigating the M&A epicenter of New York as team leader and ME.

Liana joined us three years ago as U.S. deals TL after almost a decade at Reuters, where she covered everything from M&A to the Olympic Games. She skillfully helped lead the team to one of our best performances ever despite the challenges of the pandemic, fierce competition and eye-watering levels of activity. Liana has shown an unparalleled work ethic and an ability to adeptly manage, edit and report — total football as they say (though she prefers skiing). She is also an enthusiastic cheerleader for our stellar work who always puts the team first and eagerly collaborates across the newsroom. Liana was a core part of the team that launched the successful deals newsletter and pulled off a virtual deals summit during the lockdown.

When she’s not breaking one of the biggest-ever tech deals (impeccable timing on Broadcom/VMware!), she’s an aspiring golfer and passionate sports fan for her alma mater Northwestern Wildcats and hometown team Montreal Canadiens. A self-professed bookworm, she is also a proud supporter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tapping over a decade of experience in the deals universe both inside and outside Bloomberg, she has developed a clear strategy for the years ahead and we’re thrilled to have her as our new ME.

We’ll miss Lizzie after a great run of overseeing big stories and the rollout of the our new web page and newsletter as well as her valued return-to-work for young parents initiative, but we look forward to working with her closely as a senior editor on ambitious features and magazine stories in the years ahead.

Please join us in congratulating Liana and Lizzie on their new roles!
