Dallas Business Journal editor Jeffrey Schnick sent out the following announcement to the staff:
I’m excited to announce that Rebecca Ayers is moving into a new role for us: staff writer for our new Money beat.
A journalism graduate from the University of North Carolina, Becca made the trek from the Piedmont to North Texas over the summer, joining our team as a digital reporter, focusing on transactional news.
She previously held internship roles at GrepBeat, an online publication focusing on tech coverage, particularly startups, in the Research Triangle, and the Triad Business Journal in Greensboro.
From her first day on the job, it was obvious that it was going to be hard to keep Becca in a purely transactional reporting role — and that’s why aggression and tenacity are tenets in our newsroom hiring process.
She’s an excellent representative for the Business Journal in the community, she’s firm with sources and actively seeks feedback on her work. She also is the consummate team player, willing to jump in and tackle whatever needs to be done at the moment.
As our Money reporter, her focus will be on B2B financial analysis and M&A, with a heavy focus on commercial banking, investment (PE and family office) and deal flow. As with any beat reporting role, there will be a transition period, which will be shaped by Becca, Anna and me over the next week or so to allow her the opportunity to maximize the sources we have been cultivating in this space.
On a personal note, those of you who have worked with me for more than a couple of years know how critical a beat like this is to our publication and why I value it so much: as with real estate and technology, finance touches every aspect of the business life cycle.
The announcement is in this week’s paper and will go out tomorrow digitally to our subscribers. Join me in congratulating Becca on her new role.
