Axios hires USA Today biz reporter Bomey

Nathan Bomey

Axios has hired USA Today business reporter Nathan Bomey to co-lead the Axios Closer newsletter and report on business.

His last day at USA Today is Monday.

Bomey has covered a wide range of news, including how business is changing, the auto industry, bankruptcy and the business of personal health for USA Today. He also served as the editor and writer of The Daily Money, USA Today’s Monday-through-Friday morning newsletter on business news, tech and personal finance.

Before joining USA Today in 2015, Bomey was a reporter for the Detroit Free Press, where he covered General Motors and the Detroit bankruptcy. He was also previously a business reporter for several years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and for his hometown paper before that.

Bomey is the author of three nationally published nonfiction books: “Bridge Builders: Bringing People Together in a Polarized Age” (2021, Polity Press), “After the Fact: The Erosion of Truth and the Inevitable Rise of Donald Trump” (2018, Prometheus Books) and “Detroit Resurrected: To Bankruptcy and Back” (2016, W.W. Norton).

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, he lives in the Washington, D.C., area and is the recipient of several journalism awards, including the National Headliner Award and honors from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
