Axios hires Phillips from NY Times to cover markets

Matt Phillips.

Axios has hired Matt Phillips to co-author the daily morning “Axios Markets” newsletter and cover all of the latest market trends and economic insights.

Phillip’s hire will help bolster the Axios business team.

“We are excited about our business news powerhouse team and excited about the impact they will make in our coverage,” said Axios editor-in-chief Sara Kehaulani Goo in a statement.

Since 2018, Phillips has worked for The New York Times, covering financial markets. Phillips previously served as editor in chief at Vice Money and was a founding staffer at Quartz.

He was also a reporter at the Bakersfield Californian and the Albany Business Review.
