Axios hires Irwin as chief economics correspondent

Neil Irwin

Axios has appointed Neil Irwin as chief economics correspondent, covering the intersection of the US and global economies, markets and policy.

In his new role, he will contribute across the Axios newsroom to AM, PM, Markets, Closer, Capital and Pro, Axios’ forthcoming premium product suite for professional audiences.

Irwin joins from The New York Times, where he was a senior economic correspondent. There, he was also a founding staff member of The Upshot, a site for analytical journalism that provided commentary on economic trends.

Before the Times, he was with The Washington Post for 13 years, where he has worked as a reporter and columnist covering the global financial crisis as the Post’s lead economic reporter and beat reporter covering the Federal Reserve.

He has also appeared on CNBC, CNN, the PBS Newshour, and public radio’s Marketplace.

Additionally, Irwin has authored two books: The Alchemists: Three Central Bankers and a World on Fire and How to Win in a Winner-Take-All World.
