Austin moves to business side of WSJ

Scott Austin

Scott Austin, senior deputy bureau chief in San Francisco at The Wall Street Journal, has been named senior vice president of media partnerships at The Journal and Dow Jones.

He will remain in San Francisco.

It’s an exciting and challenging time for media,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are continuously adapting to new tech platforms that distribute content to vast audiences—while preserving, protecting and investing in our great journalism.”

Austin joined Dow Jones in 2000 as a spot-news wires reporter covering, among other things, IPOs that were going poof as the tech nuclear winter set in.

From 2006-2011 he managed VentureWire, while also writing a venture capital column for MarketWatch and a venture funding column for the Journal.

From 2011 to 2014, he was tech editor on the Corporate/Marketplace desk, editing and driving stories and packages including the widely shared WSJ Wireless Calculator and the Billion-Dollar Startup Club.

He studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. He interned at Texas Monthly magazine and ESPN The Magazine.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
